Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil

Trustworthy popular brand and a good way to get Omega 3s and a little Vitamin D if you don't like eating too much fish.
Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil is a 120 tablet supplement containing 250mg of Cod Liver Oil and 230mg of Fish Oil. It’s described to be taken as one tablet per day with a drink. Whilst the dosage instructions don’t indicate that it should be taken with food, it is better to take with food as digestion will maximize the supplement’s absorption, particularly with a good source of dietary fat.
Seven Seas is a well known brand of Fish Oil supplements, and is generally well regarded for quality.
Cod Liver Oil and Fish Oil are important dietary components. Ideally you should eat oily fish twice a week, but in the absence of this, this supplement is a good alternative.
I personally suffer from gas and digestive upset with this supplement especially if I don’t take it alongside food and a source of fat in the meal. These side effects are the most common for people.
Fish oil and Cod Liver Oil purport a variety of health benefits. They are known to reduce inflammation especially in joints. It is claimed they help anxiety and depression, maintain bone density and support the immune system. They are regarded as being beneficial for pregnancy and fetal development. Much of these benefits are as a result of their high Vitamin A and D content, together with Omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin D regulates calcium absorption and the immune system, and many people can be deficient in Vitamin D due to lack of sun exposure. The sun’s ultraviolet rays converts the protein 7-DHC in our skin into Vitamin D3. Without sun exposure, even during cloud cover, such as during winter or being isolated indoors many in modern society end up being Vitamin D deficient.
One quality issue with some fish oil, is that it can become rancid from improper storage, collection or shelf life. You can cut open the tablets to test the oil yourself, and I’ve not encountered any issues with Seven Seas products regarding quality. Some studies have shown that 1 in 10 fish oil supplements are rancid and will cause more harm than good for your health. Rancid fish oil might present with smell a strong fishy taste or a sour odour. A bad aftertaste and fish odour burps are also common.
Overall I recommend this product for nearly everyone, especially if they don’t consume oily fish in their diet. I also recommend consuming it with a meal that contains a good source of fat such as eggs, avocado or grass fed beef.
