Creatine Monohydrate
Creatine is a naturally occurring compound found in small amounts in certain foods and produced by the body. It’s commonly used as a dietary supplement to improve athletic performance, increase muscle mass, and enhance strength during high-intensity activities.
Creatine monohydrate is the most widely used form of creatine supplement. It consists of creatine molecules bound to a water molecule, enhancing its stability and solubility for better absorption in the body.
Creatine supplementation has shown potential benefits for certain neuromuscular and neurological conditions such as muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease, where it may help improve muscle strength and function, as well as cognitive function. Additionally, some research suggests that creatine supplementation may have a role in improving symptoms of depression and bipolar disorder.
Creatine supplementation can increase water retention in muscles. It draws water into muscle cells, leading to an increase in intracellular fluid volume. This can contribute to short-term weight gain and may help improve muscle hydration, potentially enhancing muscle performance during high-intensity activities.
Creatine plays a crucial role in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the primary energy currency of cells. It helps regenerate ATP during short bursts of high-intensity exercise, such as weightlifting or sprinting.
Creatine supplementation is generally considered safe for most individuals when used as directed. It has been extensively researched, with numerous studies supporting its effectiveness and safety.
My Experience
I supplemented with this for two months whilst trying a strength building exercise plan and I did gain weight more easily, it seems likely that this supplement was leading to better water retention in muscles, which gave me some noticable improvements. I will likely continue to supplement with it, at least in small doses continually long term as there are some possible risks associated with high dosages long term. It’s also advisable to at least cycle off this supplement for a month every now and again to get a break from it and assess it’s use.
Summary
A useful supplement if you’re struggling with muscle building either as someone who is fit or someone with a neuromuscular condition impacting their strength, and the brand seems high quality and affordable.
